Aklan Strengthens Agricultural Innovation with Cutting-edge Greenhouse Facilities

The Aklan Agri-Aqua Demonstration Farm and Training Center continues to lead the way in modernized agriculture, evolving into a premier hub for vegetable production, research, and training in the province.

The initiative began in Brgy. Babad in 2015, starting with a net house for ornamental plants. By February 2017 to January 2018, under the leadership of former Governor Joeben Miraflores, Vice Governor Reynaldo "Boy" Quimpo, and former SP Member Soviet Russia Aguirre Dela Cruz, the province established Greenhouse 1 to promote modern farming techniques.

Aklan’s commitment to sustainable vegetable production expanded further during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the construction of Greenhouses 2 and 3 and Nursery 1 in March 2020, completed within five months. These facilities specialize in bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, chili, and hydroponic lettuce varieties, including Romaine, Batavia, Sementel, and Invicta.

By 2022, Greenhouse 4 and post-harvest facilities were introduced, ensuring harvested crops were properly processed for market. Additionally, Nursery 2 was built to support seedling production. In 2023, a rain shelter was added, initially meant for high-value crops, but now repurposed for chrysanthemums and other ornamental plants.

Looking ahead, the Aklan Agri-Aqua Demonstration Farm has partnered with KOICA to bring Smart Greenhouses, integrating cutting-edge technology to further enhance agricultural productivity.

The facility continues to attract growing interest from visitors and agricultural learners. In 2023, it recorded 4,867 visitors, increasing to 5,194 visitors in 2024. By December 2025, the farm aims to have facilitated over ___ schools and welcomed ____ students for immersive agricultural learning experiences.

With these advancements, Aklan is strengthening its role as a leader in modern, sustainable farming, ensuring food security and agricultural excellence for future generations.
